Technology at Juan Cabrillo Elementary School

At Juan Cabrillo Elementary, technology is utilized to create the most stimulating and successful learning environment for students. We are actively engaged in providing the tools necessary to meet the future and cultivate students that are problem solvers, critical thinkers and collaborators in the 21st century.

Our KN-5th grade students develop digital literacy through curriculum-integrated technology by producing projects designed for primary students. Students learn  proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher and create, research, write and publish documents.  Our Language Arts program is enhanced by Lexia Reading which provides explicit, systematic, and structured practice in essential reading skills.

Our Math program is advanced by using the web-based IXLMath which uses state- of-the-art software aligned to state and common core standards.  Social Studies and Science curriculum are expanded by accessing CaliforniaStreaming.org in both the computer lab and classrooms. We also employ an assortment of educational software and engaging approaches to differentiated learning with programs such as Reader Rabbit, Kid Works Deluxe, and web-based programs including www.starfall.com, www.eduweb.com, www.professorgarfield.com, www.nga.gov, and www.abcya.com that expand creative expression, empower learning and enrich students understanding and use of educational technology.

A recent Multimedia Project combining Art and Science introduced Folk Art to students through The National Gallery of Art’s website: www.nga.gov. See photos below.

Parents are encouraged to volunteer in the Computer Lab and become partners in  their children’s education. Gaining a better understanding of how technology is aligned with grade-level goals is beneficial in supporting home assignments. The Computer Lab menu features valuable links spanning multiple disciplines, allowing students to strengthen their knowledge base from home.
